In September 2012 ‘Writing Britain’ challenged young people out of work and education to come together to write about the cities they live in. In Leeds the project was supported by Studio 12, an incredible scheme run out of Leeds City Library in which unemployed young people from the ages of 16 – 30 are offered free training of media programs for video, photography and music production.
The week long project allowed us to work alongside eight ‘students’ who hadn’t written or performed Street Poetry before, we asked each of the participants to write rhymes about how they saw their city.
