Crypt Covers: Hope & Social feat. Sam Airey

Crypt Covers is just kind of brilliant. The idea lies within the attempt to arrange, record and mix a cover track, chosen by the fans, in just one day. It’s what we’ve always wanted to do with a band and when Hope & Social’s normal video team were unavailable we jumped at the chance to get into the studio with them. It’s an absolute nightmare to film though. As each part of the process is being recorded right there in front of you there’s no synch points. There’s no point where the whole track is being laid down right in front of you. One moment you’re on the trumpet, then the snare, then the voice harmonies. You’re building up an edit at lightning speed. It… is… mental

For the third Crypt Covers sessions Hope & Social were joined in the Crypt by the awesome Sam Airey. From the hundreds of suggestions, the Wheel of Doom chose “Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. This is the result. You can find out more and relive the live blog of the day here:
